Nissan North America is recalling 17,507 2017 and 2018 Infiniti QX30 crossovers because of unintended air bag deployment, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The driver’s air bag may unexpectedly deploy because of insufficient grounding of the steering components, if an electrostatic discharge occurs and the air bag clockspring is broken, NHTSA said. Such inadvertent deployment poses a crash and injury risk.
Nissan dealers will add sufficient grounding to the steering components, free of charge, to resolve the problem. The recall is expected to begin Dec. 18. Vehicle owners can reach Infiniti customer service at (800) 622-6200, option 7.
