American Honda Motor Co. is recalling 5,404 2017 Honda Civic sedans and coupes because improper heat treatment might have weakened the right halfshafts, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Honda dealers will inspect each halfshaft’s serial number and replace the part if needed. Dealers will also align the front wheels. There will be no charge for these services.
The recall is expected to begin Dec. 15, NHTSA said. Car owners can reach Honda customer service at (888) 234-2138. Honda’s number for this recall is K0E.
