Jeep Compass Recalled for Instrument Cluster

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling 25,823 Jeep Compass SUVs in the 2017 and 2018 model years because of faulty instrument panel clusters, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In these vehicles, the driver is unable to adjust the backlighting brightness for the instrument panel cluster. As a result, these compact SUVs don’t comply with all federal safety standards for vehicle controls and displays.

“An instrument cluster that is too bright, and cannot be dimmed, can reduce the driver's ability to see at night, increasing the risk of a crash,” NHTSA warned on its website.

FCA dealers will update the instrument panel cluster software if needed. There will be no charge for this service.

The recall is expected to begin Jan. 10. Vehicle owners can reach FCA customer service at (800) 853-1403. The automaker’s number for this recall is T70.
