Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will supply thousands of 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans to Google's Waymo to support the launch of a driverless ride-hailing service, the automaker announced.
The order is the latest acquisition of minivans by Waymo from FCA, which delivered 500 in 2017 and 100 in the second half of 2016.
Waymo is set to open its autonomous ride-hailing service to the public in Phoenix later this year. The additional Pacifica Hybrid minivans will support the expantion of the service to more cities. Waymo has tested its technology in 25 cities, including Atlanta, San Francisco, Detroit, Phoenix, and Kirkland, Wash.
The self-driving Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans have been equipped with Waymo's autonomous hardware and software that have been tested over more than 4 million miles on public roads.
