Toyota is recalling about 49,000 2016 Prius cars and Lexus RX crossovers along with 2015-2016 Lexus NX crossovers because of faulty air bag systems, according to the automaker.
The vehicles at issue have air bag systems in which an open circuit could emerge over time. If this occurs, the air bag warning light will illuminate. Also, the side and curtain shield air bags and front air bags may fail to deploy, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect the serial number of the sensors and replace the sensors if necessary. There will be no charge to customers. All owners of these vehicles will be notified by mail starting in late March, Toyota said.
Vehicle owners can reach Toyota at (800) 331-4331 and reach Lexus at (800) 255-3987.
