Developing a Winner’s Mindset

By Walter Bond

Our daily lives are filled with opportunities to have stinking thinking. Stinking thinking is when you meditate on what’s going wrong in your life and in your business. There is absolutely no room for stinking thinking in business in a booming economy. Yes I said a booming economy. You see there is always need around us. It’s our job as business people to cultivate the need. How good are you in cultivating need in your business and with your clients each day?

Winners meditate on how it will work and the good that is around them. They see situations as opportunities to develop and pursue the next big thing. There is always good in every situation. It’s our job to develop and think about how to use every situation to our advantage. What are you meditating on? How it can work or how it can’t work? That’s the defining difference in developing a Winner’s Mindset.

Winners develop the play. They strategize and execute on the strategy. They look for daily opportunities. They surround themselves with positive people and listen to positive things. You can’t believe the best when there is negativity all around you. Winners are positive people. Winners are focused people. Winners are also committed people.

With that in mind, here are 3 ways you can commit to developing a winning mindset each day.

1. Visualize your wins. When you paint the imagery on the canvas of your mind it’s only a matter of time before you bring the image into realization. Think about it. Doesn’t that work with negative thinking as well? So many people spend so much time thinking about how something won’t work versus meditating on how it will. Change your thinking to winning and it’s only a matter of time before the wins show up.

2. Develop good daily habits. You see good habits take time to form. Nothing good in life happens overnight. We all know the things we need to do to get where we truly want to be. It’s time to make a commitment to our personal selves and to our businesses to develop the right habits. As you work on good habits i.e, sales calls, follow up calls, relationship building, etc., you will create a new normal for your business. Leave the things behind that do not lead to where you want to be. You know exactly what needs to get done. Now it’s time to…just do it.

3. Focus on your daily execution. Success requires you to commit every day to your development and success. Developing a winning mindset is no different than exercising your muscles in your arms or legs. You have to develop the muscle of positive thinking. Most people have amazing ideas. They have great concepts and strategy. But for some reason, they falter in their execution. I tell everyone, start small. If we were in training camp for a sports team, we would work on the same play every day. Once you do it so much it becomes muscle memory. Commit to the one thing you will do daily this quarter. Once it’s locked in…on to the next.

It’s your job to reach your potential. Let’s all create an environment of winners.
