NAFA Fleet Management Association announces it will feature a special presentation during its annual Institute & Expo (I&E) conference featuring representatives from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The U.S. DOT will present an overview of the Connected Pilots program, which features truck and taxi fleets in New York, Florida, and Wyoming that are taking the lead to deploy exciting new technology. This session takes place on Friday, April 27, at NAFA’s 2018 Institute & Expo in Anaheim, Calif.
In the near future, fleet vehicles will be able to see things that their drivers can’t, such as another vehicle suddenly braking two or three cars ahead, a car about to run a red light, or even a pedestrian crossing the street. These fleet vehicles (taxis, trucks, buses, delivery vans, etc.), will able to communicate wirelessly with each other as well as with traffic signals, work zones, and even cell phones.
Representatives will detail the basics of connected vehicle technology and how this technology can help fleet operators to minimize crashes, operate more efficiently, and curb pollution.
The U.S. DoT is piloting connected vehicle technology in real-world environments in New York City, Tampa, and Wyoming. Attendees will learn how this research will benefit fleet operations of all sizes, and identify the many connected vehicle applications currently being developed and tested by the federal government, including fleet-specific applications.
Each year, NAFA’s Institute & Expo provides attendees with:
- Cutting-edge training and education on subjects that impact transportation both now and in the future
- Networking with thousands of fleet professionals
- First-hand experience with the latest services and products on the I&E Expo floor
- Access to information developed to improve an employer’s bottom line
- Speakers, special events, and more
