Gasoline Remains Steady at $2.53 Per Gallon

The average national price of unleaded gasoline remained flat at $2.53 per gallon for the week ending March 12, even as demand increased from a week ago, according to AAA.

The price is five cents lower than a month ago and 13 cents higher than a year ago.

Gasoline demand reached 9.2 million barrels per day, which is the highest level of 2018 so far, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).

"On the week, the majority of motorists are paying less at the pump with 67% However, the West Coast, Great Lakes and Central states are mostly seeing a gas price increase," said Jeanette Casselano, a AAA spokeswoman.

The largest weekly changes include Michigan (plus six cents), Kentucky (minus five cents), Florida (minus four cents), and Ohio (plus four cents).

The least expensive states include Alabama ($2.26), South Carolina ($2.26), Mississippi ($2.26), Texas ($2.27), Missouri ($2.28), and Arkansas ($2.28).

Meanwhile, the average price of a gallon of diesel fell 1.6 cents to $2.976, which is 41.2 cents higher than a year ago.
