Toyota unveiled a prototype of what it’s calling a hybrid flexible-fuel vehicle (Hybrid FFV) for the Brazil market, which can be powered by gasoline and alternative fuel, such as ethanol, as well as Toyota’s hybrid system.
The new Hybrid FFV powertrain is being developed with the aim of popularizing hybrid electric-vehicles in Brazil and contribute to the environment through reduction of CO2 emissions, according to Toyota. The prototype uses the Toyota Prius as a base model.
The development of the Hybrid FFV represents one of Toyota's efforts to achieve its "Environmental Challenge 2050" where it is looking to reduce vehicle CO2 emissions by 90% in comparison with 2010 levels, by 2050, the automaker said in a release.
