Kia Motors America is adding Amazon Alexa-powered voice recognition functionality to four of its vehicles to allow drivers to unlock doors, start and stop the engine, and heat or cool their cars using voice commands.
Using UVO Skill, a driver can activate the commands through a device with Amazon Alexa such as Echo or Echo Dot. Compatible vehicles include the Niro plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), Soul EV, Optima PHEV, and K900. Users can set up the system using the Alexa companion mobile app.
"We constantly strive to find new ways to make our vehicles more user-friendly," says Orth Hedrick, Kia's vice president of planning and strategy. "The UVO Skill for Alexa makes it easier and more convenient for owners of compatible Kias to use their vehicles."
