A. A good start when initiating a program is to try and reduce idling down to 15 percent of running time. Once that’s been completed try 10 percent, and so on. As goals start to be reached, the momentum can be used to continue improvement. With today’s gas prices averaging $2.70 per gallon, a 100-vehicle fleet that cuts down on idling by just 10 minutes a day per vehicle, could save nearly $12,000 a year on fuel spend alone.
