Commercial vehicle sales in India rose 76% in April 2018 when compared to last year, which was primarily led by improved by medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicle sales, according to a release from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
There were a total of 72,993 commercial vehicles sold in India during April 2018, according to Financial Express. SIAM said the transition to newer Bharat Stage emission standards (BSES) instituted by the India government last year was the primary reason for the significant rise in commercial sales this year, as last year vehicle production was hampered during the transition to newer emission standards due to the difficulty of obtaining new vehicle components.
In April 2018, sales for medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicles increased by roughly 169%, and light commercial vehicle sales grew by 44%, according to SIAM. Meanwhile, the auto industry grew 17.44% domestically from the same time last year, and the sale of passenger vehicles grew by 7.5% when compared to then, according to Financial Express.
