Q. I have one pick-up truck that pulls a 28-foot gooseneck trailer that is under 26,000 GVW. I travel from Boston, Mass., to Reading, Pa., once a month. Can I still use a paper log book?

A. Yes, you can still use a paper log book provided that you are operating this vehicle less than eight days in any 30-day period (e.g., May 1-31 or May 15-June 15).

That being said, before assuming you are exempt from any provision of the ELD rule, you should either consult with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) or your company attorney.
