Volvo Cars will integrate Google's navigation, voice command system and mobile app store into its next-generation Sensus infotainment system, the Swedish car maker has announced.
The new software based on the Android operating system will include Google Maps, Google Assistant, Google Play Store, and other services. Users will be able to download additional Google Apps from the online store, and update their apps in real time without needing to visit a local dealer.
"Bringing Google services into Volvo cars will accelerate innovation in connectivity and boost our development in applications and connected services," said Henrik Green, Volvo's senior vice president of research and development. "Soon, Volvo drivers will have direct access to thousands of in-car apps."
The new system will launch "in a couple years from now," according to Volvo.
