From Overdrive's Fatigue's Fast Track series from late 2017: Fatigue-monitoring techn promises to narrow the gap between the government’s formula for alertness and the reality of fatigue. Such systems applied to individual drivers could theoretically replace the clock-based system that attempts to cover all drivers.
