More ELDs make Canada registry | Kelly regional drive tire recalled

Trucking news and briefs for Thursday, July 7, 2022:

Kelly regional drive tire recalled

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company is recalling approximately 76 Kelly Armorsteel KDM I tires, size 11R22.5 with DOT date code 3419, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data.

There is no immediate safety concern with the tires, but the date code in the tire identification number (TIN) was incorrectly embossed on the tire, which may make it illegible. As such, these tires fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 119, "New Pneumatic Tires Other Than Passenger Cars."

The recall states that an illegible date code on the tire may prevent drivers from determining the age of the tire, potentially resulting in prolonged usage, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 15. Owners may contact Goodyear's customer service at 800-592-3267. NHTSA’s recall number is 22T-010.

Trucker Path app now offers customization options for all fleet sizes

Fleets of any size can now customize the Trucker Path mobile app for North American truckers within their own networks.

With its growth to more than one million monthly active users, Trucker Path for Fleets now offers the ability to private-label the app with company branding. Rates vary by fleet size, and a non-contract option is available.

“Employee satisfaction and company loyalty are both keys to success, especially for an industry with extremely high turnover rates,” said Chris Oliver, chief marketing officer of Trucker Path. “Providing company drivers with a company-branded app that features truck-specific routing and mapping, parking availability, document scanning, weigh station statuses and ratings, and information on over 300,000 trucking-specific locations gives fleet owners the opportunity to demonstrate they care not only about efficiency and productivity but also about their drivers’ quality of life on the road.”

In addition to offering fleets the app with company branding, Trucker Path for Fleets includes automated app onboarding, document scanning, and tutorial videos for drivers to help them navigate the app. It also comes with a fuel -savings planner that navigates drivers to the best prices along their route, helping fleets save on fuel costs.

Canada approves another ELD provider

Canada has added another device to its certified ELD list. Its ELD mandate begins Jan. 1, 2023.

Zonar Logs has received third-party certification from Transport Canada’s accreditation body COMDriver for use by Canadian fleets and federally regulated carriers crossing the U.S. and Canada border.

Zonar Logs meets the Canadian ELD Hours of Service (HOS) requirement for fleets to switch from using paper logbooks to track HOS to ELDs.

Zonar Logs provides drivers with automated status updates based on vehicle data and alerts when approaching a violation, even as regulations evolve. It also helps fleet managers monitor a driver’s live status reports, availability, performance, real-time location and hours of service.

The testing was completed over a several-week period.

Zonar Logs is the 52nd device on the approved registry in Canada, and the 21st ELD provider company represented there.
