RCMP: Trucker in crash that killed 15 bus passengers had the right of way

Police in Canada say the driver of the tractor-trailer had the right of way in a collision with a bus in which 15 senior citizens were killed last week.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Manitoba said dash cam video from the tractor-trailer showed the bus pulled into the lane of the Trans-Canada Highway in which the tractor-trailer had the right of way.

“We are not assigning culpability or laying any blame at this time,” said RCMP Superintendent Rob Lasson at a press conference last Friday.

The truck's driver has been released from the hospital. The driver of the bus remains in the hospital.

The crash and fire occurred Thursday afternoon, June 15 at the intersection of the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 5 near Carberry in southwest Manitoba.

The bus departed the Dauphin Active Living Center, and was headed to the Sand Hills Casino.

Police continue their investigation.
