Kwik Star in Iowa back on top of truck stop rankings

Trucking news and briefs for Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024:

Trucker Path users ID nation’s top truck stops

Trucker Path on Wednesday revealed the results of its annual Top 100 Truck Stops ranking, based on more than 34 million in-app ratings and reviews over the last 12 months.

For the second year in a row, the Kwik Star located at 13888 118th Ave. in Davenport, Iowa, was rated the No. 1 overall truck stop by Trucker Path users.

“We are humbled and grateful to be voted the number one truck stop in the nation for the second year in a row,” said Kathleen Ball, store leader for the Davenport Kwik Star store. “Our team is committed to providing the best possible experience for all our guests. We will continue to work hard to give our drivers the best guest service that they rely on. Thank you for letting us serve you. See you next time!”

Recognized by nearly 1 million drivers using the Trucker Path app, the top 100 truck stops are considered the top places for drivers to stop based on their offerings and customer service.

“Being named to the list of Top Truck Stops means they are the best of the best,” said Chris Oliver, CMO at Trucker Path. “In addition to the 2024 winners, there were 11 locations that pulled off a hat trick and have ranked in the Top 100 for three consecutive years. With over 12,000 trucks stops and roughly 11,000 additional fueling locations on our app for drivers to rate, this is a huge accomplishment and those facilities should be exceptionally proud.”

The following Top 5 lists of truck stops include the chain and independent locations with the highest ratings in their respective categories. Drivers across the nation can look for Trucker Path Top 100 Truck Stops, which display a window decal honoring the locations for their place in the annual ranking.

Driver recognized as Highway Angel for helping stranded mother, three children

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) in October named truck driver Keith Rahn, of Radford, Virginia, a TCA Highway Angel for the second time in two months.

Keith RahnKeith RahnThe WEL Companies driver was recognized for helping a mother with her three children stranded in a car on the highway.

On Sept. 29 around 9:20 p.m., Rahn was driving in dense fog in the right lane of I-80 eastbound in Ohio when he noticed a car stranded in his lane ahead of him.

“Thankfully I saw her,” Rahn said. “She was actually in traffic, had lost power, and she didn’t have power even for the lights on her car. She was dead stopped.”

According to the TCA Highway Angel nomination form submitted by the woman in the car, Jessica Lynn Daniels, she was traveling with her two infants and 7-year-old in the car and was frantically trying to seek a solution or get the attention of other passing motorists. She did not have a phone with her.

“Thankfully he was observant in the heavy fog and was able to stop and help push my car off the roadway and onto the shoulder before I was struck by another car,” Daniels wrote about Rahn. “Nobody was stopping until this driver came and helped. He gave me all of his information, called the Ohio State Troopers and stayed with me until they arrived to assist. I really am grateful for this driver, and I am sure that he saved our lives. God bless him.”
