Maserati plans to show its first production-ready SUV at the Detroit auto show in January as a five-seat model in the fast growing luxury utility segment, several media outlets are reporting.
The SUV has been dubbed the Levante and is being viewed as a way to increase Maserati sales by Sergio Marchionne, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' chief executive.
Maserati would likely produce 25,000 units annually and offer the SUV with a V-6 diesel or Ferrari-built V-6 and V-8 gasoline engines, according to Automotive News.
Design patent sketches for the Levante were uncovered by Autoguide, an enthusiast automotive website.
