Diesel price down for third straight week, hovering a dime below $3

The average price for a gallon of on-highway diesel dropped 1.4 cents this week, marking the third consecutive week of a price drop.

The U.S.’ average price for a gallon of diesel is now $2.87, which is $1.012 lower than the same week in 2014.

Prices decreased or stayed the same in all regions across the country during the week, with the most significant decrease coming in California, where prices dropped by 3.5 cents, followed by the Midwest, where prices dropped 2 cents.

California has the nation’s most expensive diesel at $3.182 per gallon, followed by the Central Atlantic region at $3.117 per gallon.

The cheapest diesel in the nation is in the Midwest region at $2.754 per gallon, followed by the Gulf Coast region at $2.777 per gallon.

Average prices in other regions are:

•New England – $3.073

•Lower Atlantic – $2.834

•Rocky Mountain – $2.808

•West Coast less California – $3.001
