Chevrolet will offer Android Auto compatibility through a software update on certain 2016 model year vehicles equipped with a MyLink infotainment system and 8-inch touch screen. Chevrolet dealers will provide the update in March.

With the update, 14 Chevrolet models will allow users to pair their Android mobile phones via Android Auto with vehicles ranging from the Spark to the Corvette Z06. Other notable 2016-MY Chevrolet vehicles offering Android Auto include the Colorado, Silverado, and Volt.

In less than one year, Chevrolet has connected more than a half-million customers to high-speed 4G LTE Wi-Fi.

The Android Auto platform displays a Projection icon on the MyLink screen when a phone is not connected, then changes to indicate either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto when a compatible phone is connected via USB.

Android Auto requires a phone running the Android Lollipop 5.0 operating system or higher, while Apple CarPlay requires an iPhone 5 or later. The user interfaces themselves are designed and developed by Apple (for Apple CarPlay) and Google (for Android Auto).

Users must download compatible apps to a phone before using the platforms.
