Ford Motor Co. is recalling 72 2016 model-year Ford E-Series cutaway and chassis cab vehicles in North America to address a potential issue with the trailer brake controller.

In these vehicles, the trailer brakes fail to engage when the driver presses the brake pedal. But while towing a trailer, the driver can manually apply the trailer brakes.

This condition could result in extended braking distance. However, the automaker isn’t aware of any related accidents or injuries, Ford said in a released statement.

To resolve the problem, dealers will update the powertrain control module software at no cost to the customer.

The recall covers E-Series cutaway and chassis cab vehicles built at Ford's Ohio Assembly Plant from Nov. 3, 2014, through Sept. 1 of this year. Of the 72 vehicles in North America that may have the problem, 65 are in the U.S. and federalized territories. Seven are in Canada.
