In mid-October, NAFA Fleet Management Association President Ruth Alfson, CAFM® appointed Phil Moser as Safety Advisory Council Affiliate Vice Chair. Moser is Vice President with safety training providers Advanced Driver Training Services (ADTS). He succeeds Katherine Croze, National Sales Manager for Government Fleet Market for The CEI Group, who stepped down in August.

Moser, NAFA’s Affiliate of the Year for 2015, said, “NAFA represents organizations that employ thousands and thousands of drivers. It is vital that NAFA is at the forefront when it comes to driver safety. The Safety Advisory Council plays an vital role in making sure that this is accomplished.”

“Prior to working with ADTS, Phil was an accident investigator, and has seen the effects of disregard to safety behind the wheel,” said NAFA Chief Executive Officer Phillip E. Russo, CAE. “He will bring a wealth of knowledge and determination to the position, and NAFA thanks him for accepting this position.”

NAFA’s Safety Advisory Council is at the forefront of safety efforts by providing:

• A one-stop home for useful fleet safety information for our members
• A voice raised to the vehicle manufacturers, various government entities, and others to forward fleet concerns and support safety efforts
• A forum to discuss safety-related problems and get answers
• Safety educational tools for NAFA chapter meetings

Further illustrating NAFA’s commitment to safety as an organization, in October 2015 the Association issued its position statement regarding distracted driving, adopting a strong policy for all of its employees, contractors, and volunteers prohibiting the use of any electronic device – handheld or hands-free – while engaged in the act of driving. “Safety needs to be important to NAFA members so that it is important to the drivers they manage,” Moser added, asserting that NAFA will be an example and advocate for safety in all facets of the fleet profession. “We need to keep promoting the safety message so that the drivers understand that the greatest goal they achieve each day is arriving home safely.”
