Fleets in six New York counties around Rochester are eligible for $1 million in federal grants to purchase or convert their vehicles to operate on alternative fuels, the Genesee Region Clean Communities has announced.
Commercial or government fleets with vehicles operating in the Rochester Nonattainment Area can apply to the group for the grants. The area includes Monroe, Wayne, Ontario, Livingston, Genesee, and Orleans counties.
Fleets can use the grant to fund up to 75% of the cost of the purchase or conversion. The funding is available through the federal Congestion Mitigation & Air Quality (CMAQ) program that's jointly administered by the Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration.
Fleets must submit their application for funding by 5 p.m. on March 18. Visit the group's website to apply or get more information.
