Japan Quakes Cause GM Plant Shutdown

Parts shortages caused by a pair of earthquakes in Japan has caused General Motors to shut down four North America assembly plants for two weeks, GM has announced.

Starting April 25, GM will halt production at plants in Spring Hill, Tenn.; Oshawa Flex Assembly, Canada; Lordstown, Ohio; and Fairfax, Kan.

Vehicles affected by the move include the Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Malibu, Chevrolet Impala, Buick Regal, Cadillac XTS, and Cadillac XT5, said Joanne Krell, a GM spokeswoman.

Toyota closed its plants from April 18 to 23, causing delays in shipping Toyota, Lexus, and Hino vehicles.
