Nissan North America is recalling 108,503 2014-2016 model-year Nissan Rogue SUVs because their rear lift gate support stays were given insufficient anti-corrosion treatment, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

The recall covers Rogue vehicles manufactured from July 31, 2013, to Jan. 16 of this year.

“Corrosion of one or both of the rear lift gate support stays could cause a sudden release of pressure,” NHTSA said on its website. “If this occurs, the support stays may break off, increasing the risk of injury.”

Nissan dealers will replace the rear lift gate stays, free of charge, when parts become available. Vehicle owners will be sent interim notifications by mid-June. A second notice will be sent when remedy parts are on hand.

Vehicle owners can reach Nissan customer service at (800) 647-7261.
