Gasoline Prices Extend Slide

The national average price of a gallon of regular unleaded has fallen for 30 consecutive days to $2.23 on July 11, according to AAA.

With the decline, the price has reached its lowest mark since 2004, AAA reported. The price is four cents lower than a week ago, 15 cents lower than a month ago, and 53 cents lower than a year ago.

About 25,000 stations are now selling gasoline for less than $2, according to AAA.

The U.S. Department of Energy's national average price declined 3.8 cents to $2.253 for the week ending July 11. That price is 58.1 cents lower than a year ago. Nine regions tracked by the agency reported price declines. The Midwest saw the biggest decline with 5.3 cents to $2.155. New England declined 4.7 cents to $2.276.

Meanwhile, diesel prices fell 40 nine-tenths of a cent to $2.414. Diesel is now 40 cents lower than it was a year ago.
