Mazda Motor Corp. will begin rolling out a next generation of vehicle motion control technologies under its SkyActiv brand later this year by adding a technology known as G-Vectoring Control to the 2017 Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 sedans.

The technology has been made available on the Mazda Axela, which is known as the Mazda 3 outside of Japan and went on sale in Japan on July 13. G-Vectoring Control is the first technology in the SkyActiv-Vehicle Dynamics suite that will be rolled out in future years. It's part of Mazda's SkyActiv branding around proprietary improvements to the chassis, body, suspension, and engine.

G-Vectoring Control is different than torque vectoring, according to Jacob Brown, a Mazda spokesman. While torque vectoring is a corrective action during high-speed cornering, G-Vectoring Control works in various situations. Torque vectoring overdrives a cornering vehicle's inside wheel to defeat understeer. G-Vectoring Control shifts weight to the front of the car and cuts a minimal amount of torque to the engine to improve steering, Brown said.
