GM Recalls Cruze for Seat-Back Frames

General Motors is recalling 17,197 2016- and 2017-model year Chevrolet Cruze cars because the head restraints may malfunction, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

A bracket used in the driver or front passenger seat-back recliner mechanism may have been incorrectly welded to the seat-back frame, NHTSA said. As a result, the head restraints may not perform properly during a crash and the seat-back frames might break. This condition increases the risk of injury to occupants.

GM dealers will inspect the front passenger seats and replace any defective seat-back frames. There will be no charge for this service.

Vehicle owners can reach Chevrolet customer service at (800) 222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 17035.
