Honda CR-V Earns Top Safety Honor

VIDEO: Honda CR-V Excels in Crash Tests

The redesigned Honda CR-V has qualified for the Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Like the previous generation of the compact SUV, the 2017-model year CR-V drew the highest rating of “good” for all crashworthiness tests. (To view crash test video footage, click on the photo or link below the headline.) The vehicle is available with an optional front crash prevention system that earned a “superior” rating.

When equipped with front crash prevention, the CR-V avoided collisions in the institute's 12 mph and 25 mph track tests. The vehicle also has a forward collision warning system that meets criteria from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The LED headlights that come with the CR-V’s Touring trim drew a rating of “acceptable.” The halogen lights on the model’s other trim levels were rated “marginal.”

To earn the 2017 Top Safety Pick+ award, a vehicle must have “good” ratings in the small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests. The vehicle also must have an available front crash prevention system with an “advanced” or “superior” rating and headlights that have earned an “acceptable” or “good” rating.
