FCA US is recalling 25,593 2014-model year Fiat 500L compact cars so dealers can update the powertrain control module software, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In these cars, the powertrain control module (PCM) software calibration may be incorrect, limiting the engine to idle speed and torque even when the accelerator pedal is fully pressed.

If the vehicle does not accelerate as expected, there may be an increased risk of a crash,” NHTSA warned on its website.

Dealers will update the PCM software free of charge. The recall is expected to begin May 5.

Car owners can reach the Fiat Information Center at (888) 242-6342. FCA’s number for this recall is T19.
