The average fuel economy rating of new vehicles sold in March reached 25.2 mpg, which was a 0.1 mpg increase from February, according to the University of Michigan's Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI).

The March value is 5.1 mpg higher than October of 2007, when monitoring began and 0.3 mpg from the 25.5 mpg peak reached in August of 2014.

The University of Michigan Eco-Driving Index (EDI) — an index that estimates the average monthly emissions of greenhouse gases generated by an individual U.S. driver — reached 0.84 in January, up 0.01 from the value for December (the lower the value the better).

This value indicates that the average new-vehicle driver produced 16% lower emissions in January 2017 than in October of 2007, but 6% higher emissions than the record low reached in November of 2013.
