Ford's 2018 Expedition will arrive with more powerful engines and an off-road package to increase its capability on trails and other unpaved surfaces, Ford has announced.

Ford has released power ratings for the vehicle, which will offered in four trim grades, including XL, XLT, Limited, and Platinum. The Expedition is powered by a new 3.5-liter EcoBoost with standard auto stop-start paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The XL, XLT, and Limited models running on 87 octane make 375 horsepower and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. Those ratings add 10 hp and 50 lb.-ft. over the outgoing model. The Platinum running on 93 octane makes 400 horsepower and 480 lb.-ft. of torque. Those ratings add 35 hp and 60 lb.-ft. over the outgoing model.

The Expedition FX4 will include a new terrain management system that allows the driver to select modes to optimize driving dynamics in conditions such as snow, mud, and sand.

The FX4 package, which is added to the XLT trim, includes off-road-tuned shocks, all-terrain tires, seven skid plates, 18-inch cast aluminum wheels, and rubber floor liners.

The vehicle will also add other new options such as Trailer Backup Assist and a Wi-Fi hotspot as it enters its fourth generation. The 2018 Expedition goes on sale in the fall.
