Ford Motor Company South Africa (FMCSA) is expanding production at its Silverton plant in Pretoria with a $220 million investment, according to Engineering News.
The expansion is aimed toward increasing production of the Ranger Raptor pickup truck, which the Silverton plant manufactures alongside the Everest SUV. The investment is FMCSA's response to growing market demands, improving quality, and automation. The Ranger Raptor will enter the South African market in 2019.
The current capacity of the plant is 100,000 units per year. The investment is predicted to increase production to 167,000 units per year, with changes taking place in January 2018. Employment is also planned to increase.
