Opel vehicles in South Africa will be imported and distributed by Unitrans Automotive in 2018, a result of PSA's acquisition of the Opel/Vauxhall brand earlier this year.

The Import rights for Opel in South Africa are set to change beginning in 2018 following General Motors' decision to leave the country and the sale of the Opel/Vauxhall brands to PSA, according to Just Auto. Unitrans Automotive is a retailer for automotive brands across South Africa.

Opel, which is the sister brand of Vauxhall, will have vehicles available in 35 dealerships, some independent and some owned by Unitrans, as well as two flagship stores to be opened in Johannesburg and Capetown, according to a release from Opel.

The move coincides with the releases of the Opel Crossland X SUV in December, the next generation of the Opel Corsa, and the launch of the Grandland X that will hit South Africa in the first half of 2018.

Opel dealers will also take over aftersales from Chevrolet starting Jan. 1, 2018, as Chevrolet leaves the South African market.

The South African expansion is part of Opel's PACE! plan to grow its international presence and enter over 20 export markets by 2022.
