Changing Gear: Updates from Yokohama-Freightliner, Meritor-Kenworth, Bendix, Mahle

Here’s some good news for Freightliner truck buyers who prefer Yokohama Tires: Those new now can be equipped with Yokohama’s complete line of commercial truck tires, including ultra-wide base, drive, trailer and steer/all-position. All available Yokohama tire positions are now an option in Freightliner’s Data Book.

Rick Phillips, vice president of sales for Yokohama Tire Corp, says the move is part of the company’s “focus on fleets” initiative designed to make sure fleets can get the tires they want. Mary Aufdemberg, director of product marketing for Freightliner Trucks, says that offering customizable options for new truck orders helps its customers run successful businesses. That’s what we’re in this for, right?

Speaking of great collaborations between trusted names, Kenworth now offers the Meritor Front Steer non-drive axle family rated from 12,000 to 14,600 pounds in standard and wide-track options for selected Class 8 trucks and the Class 7 T370. The axles, which are designed to be fully compatible with both disc and drum brakes, are available for applications such as linehaul, pickup and delivery, construction, refuse, logging and mining.

According to Meritor, the new MFS axles offer up to a 55-degree turn angle for added maneuverability and vehicle stability, while the company’s Easy Steer bushing technology helps reduce steering effort and provide longer life. Durability, low maintenance and ease of service are facilitated by a combination of low-friction bushings, double-draw keys and integral thrust bearing and seal designs.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for a compressor that won’t break your budget, our friends at Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems has some great news. The company has expanded its lineup of remanufactured components with the launch of its All Makes product line, with remanufactured compressors being the first offerings. The All Makes line features more than 100 non-Bendix compressor part numbers while also incorporating 20 new offerings from the company.

The company plans to add more compressor products throughout 2015 and also introduce a variety of additional commercial vehicle All Makes product lines. Bendix says the new additions help to further broaden its reman compressor offering that now includes Bendix, Cummins/Holset, Midland and Wabco.
