2015 Lincoln MKC 2.0T FWD: A Worthy Crossover Contender

The Detroit marque revived the name it first used in 1922, Lincoln Motor Company. After its rechristening, the MKC was introduced as its all-new product. This compact crossover shares a lot of Ford Escape’s underlying mechanicals, and buyers in the US would all agree that the Lincoln MKC 2.0T FWD is the best the company’s bestselling entry in the SUV crowd.

So, is the new MKC a worthy contender for the crossover lineup?

To begin with, you can buy it with a 285-horsepower 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo four, which can also be found in the Mustang. The base version uses 240-horsepower 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo, which you can find in Ford’s compact SUV. This explains why the MKC’s 7.3-second 0-to-60-mph time is almost the same as the AW 2.0-liter EcoBoost of the Ford Escape. The same goes for the MKC 2.0’s 170-foot 70-to-0-mph stopping distance, plus 0.83g of skidpad grip.

As the 2015 Lincolm MKC 2.0T is priced at almost $40,000, it is being compared with luxury brand vehicles like the Audi Q5 2.0T and BMW X3 xDrive28i. This is why it’s important for each touchpoint to influence a positive response. Some of the notable features of leather surfaces, premium infotainment, standard power assists as well as convenience features, all of which are expected from a top brand.

What might put buyers off with the new Lincoln MKC are its materials, as they are not at par with Audi or Lexus. Aside from that, the legroom is smaller for this vehicle, giving the feeling of being cramped in the rear seats. It also comes with standard Active Noise Control. But what distinguishes it from the rest is its tasteful combination of style.

Although the MKC won’t make it to the luxury crossover status quo, its panoramic sunroof, voice-activated navigation, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic monitoring could be enough for Lincoln to keep its current buyers happy.
