BMW showed a 5 Series Gran Turismo sedan research vehicle powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology at its Innovation Days 2015 earlier this week.
Using a fuel-cell system jointly developed with Toyota, BMW's 5 Series fuel cell vehicle uses an electric motor from the i sub-brand. It produces 245 hp, and draws power from the hydrogen fuel tank mounted between the axles. The research vehicle can travel 300 miles before needing to refuel.
BMW and Toyota began their strategic collaboration in 2013 with the goal of developing a group of approved components of the fuel-cell powertrain by 2020.
