The U.S. Postal Service is purchasing 9,113 Ram ProMaster 2500 cargo vans for daily mail delivery, FCA US has announced.

A gasoline-fueled 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 powers the 2016 ProMaster vans, producing 280 hp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. The front-wheel-drive vans will deliver this power via a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The vans will receive "customized outfitting" for national mail and package delivery.

This van order is separate from the USPS' spec'ing and procurement of its next-generation delivery vehicle to replace its aging fleet of 190,000 vehicles, including 142,000 Long Life Vehicles (LLVs).

"While each and every one of our fleet customers is important to us, none command our attention like USPS," said Tim Kuniskis, FCA's vice president of fleet operations. "I can't think of another more mission-critical service than literally delivering the goods of our nation on a daily basis."
