U.S. diesel price falls below $2.40, lowest point in six years

Diesel prices continued to drop this week, falling below the $2.40 mark for the first time since June 1, 2009.

The U.S.’ average price of a gallon of on-highway diesel is now $2.379, a 4.2-cent drop from last week.

Prices dropped in all regions across the country with the most significant decrease coming in the Midwest region, where prices dropped 6.3 cents, followed by the Lower Atlantic region, where prices dropped 6 cents.

The nation’s most expensive diesel can be found in California at $2.704 per gallon, followed by the Central Atlantic region at $2.542 per gallon.

The cheapest fuel is in the Gulf Coast at $2.232 per gallon, followed by the Lower Atlantic region at $2.348 per gallon.

Prices in other regions across the country are as follows:
•New England – $2.515
•Midwest – $2.348
•Rocky Mountain – $2.41
•West Coast less California – $2.477
