Beginning in 2019, Toyota will produce its gasoline and hybrid RAV4 compact SUVs at its Cambridge North Assembly plant in Ontario, Canada, according to an announcement from the plant.

Prior to this announcement, the automaker was assemblying the RAV4 and hybrid RAV4 at plants in Woodstock, Ontario, and Japan. Toyota refreshed the RAV4 for the 2016 model year and added a new hybrid model.

To accommodate the change, the Cambridge North Plant will receive a significant new investment, including the introduction of Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA), an integrated approach for the development and building of vehicles that involves new production equipment and new processes.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. (TMMC) already manufactures the Toyota Corolla, RAV4, Lexus RX 350 and RX 450h vehicles and is the first plant outside of Japan to build a Lexus vehicle.

The RAV4's production at the Cambridge North Assembly Plant, in 2019, will mark the building of vehicles in Canada for 30 years.
